These days, my mantra has been: “Be present.”

Polaroid
Where I grew up, instant photos were seen as a cheap form of photography. Something fun, ultimately forgotten, just for the moment. As a late adopter of a Polaroid SX-70, I’m beginning to understand the allure of instant pictures. It’s unlike digital photography where the negatives are dispensable; a Polaroid in these days is precious, its chemicals sensitive and volatile. Of the whole pack, I only have this and another of my neighbour’s cat to mark the beginnings of this journey.

I have this fascination with empty lots. Especially here, I’m almost always surprised when I see a void between small buildings and homes. I wonder: What happened? What was there? What will be there? Looking forward into the distance, I see structures rising above while the past sits in the shadows. What’s next?

Rise, dear friends. Tonight, mischief runs this town.

Afternoon light

After a 5K this weekend, I found myself faced not with the usual bananas and water, but with jambalaya, hot wings, fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and… just a lot of delicious food. The love for food and company here continues to delight me.
