I have this fascination with empty lots. Especially here, I’m almost always surprised when I see a void between small buildings and homes. I wonder: What happened? What was there? What will be there? Looking forward into the distance, I see structures rising above while the past sits in the shadows. What’s next?

About this project

an ocean apart is a photographic project by Jasmin and Amy, who live in Sydney and New Orleans respectively.

It chronicles photographs by the two, taken weekly, separated by the Pacific Ocean and two distinctly different hemispheres.

When not designing, taking photos or rearranging items around my apartment, I can be found tending a vegetable garden or sipping espresso coffee. I shoot most photos with an Olympus Pen E-P2 and a Canon 1N, and am enamoured of the creamy tones of Kodak Portra 400.

Amy New Orleans, USA

I enjoy taking photos, doodling in Photoshop, making people laugh, and the outdoors. I shoot mostly with a Canon t1i and sometimes with the ever delightful Pentax K1000.
