The Sungei Buloh (pronounced soong-i boo-low) Wetland Reserve [link] in northern Singapore is home to a sweep of mangrove plants that thrive on the humid air and soggy marshland. Taken in early morning during high tide, the same scene an hour later can present a completely different image. The roots of the plants survive above and under water, making their amazing adaptive abilities seem like a cunningly crafted work of art by nature.

In the past year, I collected newspapers and magazines of almost everything as we went through hard-fought primaries to the momentous election. To me, it’s like holding onto a piece of history. We placed our hopes on one man, a man that has already changed our ever-changing landscape and could change even more. He was sworn into office a little over a week ago, and the world was with us as we watched. There will be false starts, he said, but that’s okay. We have hope again.
